Couldn't wait any longer for a leek
« on: February 12, 2006, 16:11:29 »
Keenness has got the better of me and I planted out 45 leeks into toilet roll tubes this morning.

they will start of indoors and be grown on in a cold frame until ready for planting, anyone else started leeks yet?

Yes I put half a packet into a large tub a week ago, and have them on a warm shelf at work. They are an early variety - Tropita.
The impossible is just a journey away ...

A lottie friend planted out runner bean seedlings begining of March last year and lost the lot to frost, be warned. :o ;D

The leeks are just starting to show, after only a week

The plan is to keep them indoors until they are large enough to thin to 1 per tube (1 put in 3 seeds per tube), then put them in the garage or the coldframe until planting time.

loulou, the girls could grow pea shoots if you wanted to keep them busy, which can be grown and eaten in about 10 days - picture and instructions at http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,16918.0
