Isn't it amazing how important open space is?? And how little shade can be so harmful?

That's terrifying tim - you would think it was only a few twigs and wouldn't make much difference :o

Tim - thanks so much for posting these photos.  My husband saw them and, like me was amazed at how just a few twiggy branches could make such a difference.

He went out and thinned out considerably a willow that part shades our veggie patch. 

All the asking/telling (oh ok then nagging) from me wouldn't have had half the effect that your photos had.

So true, I was chasing small daughter around the garden yesterday and the parts that don't get real sun were still frozen at midday. They've probably not thawed out for the duration of this cold spell.
