Instant cabbage!
«

My first feast of spinach (perennial-type) was delicious but resulted in a wicked attack of gout >:(. Having only a tiny veg patch I can't spare the space to grow stuff I can't eat so it had to go. To replace them I sowed some spring cabbage seeds (mid/late - July?) and thought I would have to do without home-grown greens til next year :(.
Just look at them! I think I'll be eating them in a month or so! Are they usually this quick-growing?
(BY the way, the little bits of greenery growing around them aren't weeds - they're watercress self-seeded from nearby pots! :))

I would call that a bit amazing. Trouble is, you won't have Spring Cabbages?
Weeds? Never entered my head!!

Cut the first one yesterday!
Lovely to have some fresh, home grown 'spring' greens! :) (Outside leaves were a bit tough - (probably my cooking! ::)) - but really tasty!
And, yes, Tim - hopefully I will have some more in the spring! I sowed another lot as soon as I noticed how fast these were coming on!

Thanks, Tim :) - Aren't I the lucky one! ;D
Lauren - They're T & M '(Spring) Advantage F1'. Says on the back - 'Sow outdoors ... in spring for late summer cabbages or summer for spring cabbages'.....!!!
I did start mine in cells in the greenhouse - but, even so...! :o

My red cabbages have suddenly produced lovely solid hearts virtually overnight. The few green caterpillars on them show up like big green juicy beacons for the birds!

On the plot today I noticed some of my broccoli has 'headed', and the 'sprouting' variety is... well... sprouting!
