Outlook Express
« on: January 29, 2008, 19:48:09 »
Right, before I call Orange and get put through to India for 45 minutes at some ridiculous cost, talking to someone who talks far too fast, and who I can hear tippy typing my question in on their computer (probably a VERY nice person who is just trying to earn a crust), can anyone help? (Probably isn't an Orange related problem anyhow!)
Orange have upgraded me to 8 megs. Lovely, but since they did it, I cannot send anything out of outlook. (Get get incoming but nada going out!)
I get this message:-

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Debs Mail', Server: 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Have looked on their website and that socket or error number does not pull anything up, so any suggestions anyone? Do I need to reconfigure my Orange bits n bobs in Outlook?

Thanks

shouldn't your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) be set to smtp.orange.co.uk and not "orangehome"?

change it in Tools - Accounts - Properties - Servers

i'd have posted before only i've lost the Orange BB Twice in the last 10 minutes, as has been happening for the last 2 weeks. Make that 4 times in the last hour  ???

I went to the orange web site where, like most ISP's they have their settings that you require.
http://help.orange.co.uk/resultDisplay.do?gotoLink=158&docType=1006&contextId=547:158.198&docPropValue=kb4473&clusterName=DefaultCluster&contentId=ace37c43-d1f4-40c4-8fdd-be62370f395c&responseId=7fc004a3f2245237:100ebec:117c8b3ebd0:-f5&groupId=1&answerGroup=2&score=429&page=http://ESERVER_89815ede-42ed-4ba2-ba1c-205013980818.xhtml&result=1&excerpt=checking+mail+profile+'servers'+settings&resultType=5002#Goto158

Long link, sorry. oranghome is correct. I think you may have checked the "My server requires authentication" button. Uncheck it. There is a picture on the link of how it should look...

Thanks for that  ;D
RT, my connection has been coming n going too this past 2 weeks, so it is not just you, infact went down last night as I was trying to reply to this! >:(

Woppa, thank you for that link, I checked everything and it was all as it should  have been, so went downstairs for a cuppa before tackling the call center, came back upstairs, thought just check it one more time so I can read out to them what the error message etc. was, and blow me down, the thing is working!! :o

So maybe Orange have been having problems and have now hopefully sorted it.

Thank You for your advice both of you,
