Topic: This is the best time of the year for potatoes......

Have made a start on the digging of potatoes planted in February.

Very pleased with the rewards, still get a thrill seeing them lovely and new
after many years of planting, especially after last years complete washout.

So far had Accent , Rooster, Franceline and Catriona.

Can I very much recommend Franceline and Catriona.......if only for the lovely colour of them when you lift them.

My very favourite has been lost to me and unable to replace....if anybody has a variety called " Alex " then let me know.

I am now thinking about my Autumn planting in a dustbin for Christmas. They will probably be " Maris Peer ".

any earlies you dig now that have gone green if exposed to light, plant them! ;)

Always keep a bag of seed potatoes in darkness in the salad drawer at the bottom of the fridge. They are only just beginning to shoot from January purchase and will be taken out and planted in the next few weeks.

I reckon you could get away with supermarket ones (or perhaps some of you own early's), by Sept. most other spuds and toms are up and harvested, and also most poeple plant in bags / bins in a greenhouse - so even if they do develop somthing nasty it should'nt effect anything else...
