Lidl
« on: July 29, 2009, 18:45:42 »
Went to Lidl today. I like their plain yoghurt. On the way round we saw some big jars of Butter beans and chick peas.400grams without the water .I can't remember exactly how much they were. Somewhere between 69p and 89p. I had put a beef casserole on in the slow cooker this morning so added half a jar of the butter beans for the last half hour. They were out of this world much better than tinned, Going back tomorrow for another dozen jars for the store cupboard, Just wish we could grow them in our climate.

I have read that Latvian peas can be used instead of chick peas.  I finally have enough drying off to give it a try.  Hope to make humous.  What do you do with chick peas.?

Sorry prefer Sainsbury's for cheap yoghurt and it is less runny.  More actual milk solids for your money.

Mind you its a lot of work drying and shelling them rather than a jar for 80p or so.

Sorry they were only 69p. We buy the 500gram Natural yoghurt for 45p. I dont find it runny at all. You do have to mix it cos with yoghurt the milk solids tend to sink to the bottom

We use chick peas in stews and currys and of course humous. They are also nice in a salad

I also love falafel, but mine always seem to be rock hard and never as yummy as others! So if Duke has some expert tips.......    :)

I will try it again.  Last time I gave it a go, it was barely thicker than milk.  Prefer to spend 47p in Sainsburys.

Tried Aldis offering - about the same price and it had a completely different taste, very acidic.  Used it to stop the drain smelling - did that job very well.
