String 'em across
« on: July 30, 2009, 10:48:03 »
Having seen this last year on A4A I thought I'd try strings leading diagonally upwards and away from some of the upright bamboos (starting about 2/3rds of the way up).

I think it's fair to say the runners like it - and it makes picking easier.

PS I'm afraid the photo was taken after picking most of the beans (poor planning) but I hope you can get the idea.

I have 2 rows of beans 4'-5' apart and I put canes across the tops to join the 2 rows.  So far they have grown across well and there are tiny beans  hanging down.  Might do a wider arch next year.

I built a Muntjac bean frame for this year.  I'm pleased with it too.  This was it a few weeks ago before the beans had taken over.

thanks for the pics, they are inspiring. I was wondering if I could do something similar to Ceres & tomatoada but over a 3ft path on my  plot. But maybe it won't be wide enough? Or maybe I should only plant up one side? So thanks again for the ideas will have a ponder.......

Ceres I too built the munty frame, with much ridicule from my fellow plotholders...........I have the best beans I have ever had, they are all hanging down beautifully so easy to pick, and so many of them already!.......a few mutterings of maybe I will do that next year, on my site! ;D
