Seaforth Allotments
« on: August 16, 2009, 19:55:02 »
I live in Seaforth, near Liverpool.

My partner has been on a waiting list for an allotment for two years.  But there seems little prospect of us obtaining one any time soon...

In fact, according to a recent news article, there are 58 people waiting for one of 89 plots at our local site.

Having been to the site in question, turnover of allotments is not what you might call "rapid".

I've been talking to a local councillor about the issue; I've also set up a blog to try to promote the idea that allotment provision in Sefton should be increased.

Can anyone offer any advice on the issue?
Does anyone living in the area want to join this campaign?

If so, please contact me!

Thanks, saddad.   :)

I know that waiting lists are an issue at the moment.  I've been researching the issue of availability online; some lists are so ridiculously lengthy that one wonders whether the applicants are likely to be alive when a plot eventually becomes vacant!  (Forty years?)

I think - and I hope - that there is a solution.

You what?
That's quite a trek!

I get the train to Ainsdale every morning - that's taxing enough!  Trying to pluck up the courage (and the energy) to cycle from Freshfield to Ainsdale in order to save pennies on the monthly train fare...   :P

My nutjob of a brother went on a several thousand mile trek around Europe (on a touring bike) in his gap year...  I was at university at the time, chugging pints.  :)

I was learning life skills!
And very valuable lessons they were too.  :P

Of course, my brother now has legs like tree trunks, of which I am slightly jealous...  I bet he doesn't get tired after a day spent killing vine weevils in the back yard!
