OK, what did I do wrong THIS time?  ::)

The corn has grown but the cobs are minute. :-[

Start them off early. Sow mid April so they have a long growing season, plant out mid/end May. Earth up around the stem when about a foot high.

Mine were planted out a month late owing to late frosts. Have I still got any chance of getting corn this year?

Did start them early - in loo rolls!  I favour terrace's theory on lack of water.

I am wondering if it is rather late in the day to expect the cobs to get any bigger now?  ???

never grown sweetcorn but lots of my neighbours do. they tell me that theirs is not ready yet but they are confident of getting a good crop by the end of september.
we're down in london by the way, if that makes a difference.

Picked 23 cobs yesterday tastes absolutely wonderful. I had been checking the sweetcorn on each visit to the allotment, using the finger nail test and decided to pick slightly earlier than last year. It has definitely paid off, now need to go down again and pick more before it's too late.
