many thanks peeps. He will be cremated, but date not yet sorted. My mum doesn't want the ashes, but I could have them, otherwise, the crematorium scatter them over the roses. Perhaps I could add them to the compost heap.

If you do keep the ashes, it would be nice to have them buried under a shrub or bush that flowers at this time of year. A cornus perhaps with it's brilliant red stems. My parents ashes are scattered under a tree at the crematorium. The tree has lovely deep red foliage in the spring.

When my dad was cremated he was 'planted' in the garden of rememberance. You have never seen such lush green grass! Mia, you think long and hard about your dad's ashes and what
you
want done with them.

Thinking of where the crem is, it is quite a way so leaving the ashes with them I don't think is feasible. If we have them on the allotment, I think they would be beneficial. He liked allotments, and that is where my love of gardening came from. I don't think my mum would like an urn with them in sitting on a shelf. He didn't believe that there was anything after death. I remember we used bone meal (as well as blood, fish and bone) in the garden - maybe using his ashes somehow in the garden/allotment would be fitting.

I agree with EJ. It's what you and your mum are comfortable with. Take plenty of time to think about it. Don't let anyone rush you.

She said she is happy for me to have the ashes. My dad lives on in my brother, myself and Osian with the genes, that is all that matters to her, not where the ashes go.
Whatever I will do with them, it will be in the new year.
