I just have to say that I think new spuds are wonderful....my 1st year growing them and my wife, (who has always refused point blank to eat them) has wolfed down Charlotte & Maris Bard with every meal this week  ;D ;D ;D

I have about ten 30 ' rows of Maris Piper, pentland Crown and Pink Fir Apples in as maincrops!!  ;D

Very nice result - and just as well on the wifey wolfing if you have that many to get  through!!!!!!!!
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!

Well done Mothy :D :D ;D

I bet they taste lovely.

Can't wait to see what mine are like ;)

Good stuff Mothy!  Even though our harvests are smallish due to the lack of 'extra' water, ever spud is devine!  I even wash the marble sized ones and daughter number one has them mixed with her freshly picked peas.

EJ, I wondered why the crop seemed small?
All perfectly formed, clean etc just not that many of them.
Down to water then....it has been a very dry spring, even here in the Midlands

Just as well I planted loads then  ;D ;D

One of the joys of home grown veg is the taste, we are not so driven by the commercial aspects as farmers are. The cheapest way to bulk up thier crops is water, but then things dont taste as good.

I grow for taste and wholsome goodness, not looks or yield!

Also depends on the variety I've found.

So far this year -

jerseys (international kidney) - amazing taste poor yield (few large ones)
amandines - medium yield - amazing looking smooth beautiful shaped - not very flavoursome
anya - heavy yield of very small potatoes - amazing taste.

All potatoes have a lower than usual yield this year - think it is due to lack of rainfall - there is a reason we have a hosepipe ban (we had a letter from southern water telling us that it was the lowest rainfall since 1904 this winter.

We had a frost at the end of may - it was'nt to bad on my plot, but even so the early's seem to have much smaller tops this year. The first few i've dug dont seem to bad though, about half dozen spuds between hens egg to cricket ball size...

My main crop is absolutley romping along - the tops are massive - looking really healthy. We've had quite a bit of rain in the last couple of weeks which has got them going well.

Strawberries going really well, i've been picking at least a couple of pounds every 2 days ;D for the last couple of weeks.... far more than last year.
Straight outt'a compton - West Berkshire.

Please excuse my spelling, i am an engineer
