Dug up my first ever crop of potatoes yesterday: a load of Anyas which were freebies from T&M. Almost filled my trug with them although some were pea-size but there are a number of good sized ones too. I think one plant yielded about 30 tubers of varying size. Still got a row of Saxon which I'll give a couple more weeks before digging those up. Also removed most of my onions too which are currently drying out under my enviromesh tent from whence came my turnips. Most of the reds aren't much gigger than golfball size although there are some biggies too. The white onions are a lot bigger. All in all, I'm happy with my first batch and can't wait for next year to put in even more.

I also grew the freebie Anyas from T&M and we had some at the weekend with roast chook.  Very nice spuds, good flavour and they didn't fall to bits when cooked.  Also, not as oddly shaped at pink fur so easier to clean!  Considering my spuds do not receive any extra water at all, I got a good yield from the Anyas and will grow them again next year!

Glad to hear you onions are so good.  We have such horrid rot it is hard to get a good crop.  Were they overwintered onions or spring planted??

Good stuff anyhow!  Great when the harvests start to come.

Onions were spring planted, EJ, also from T&M. Lost a couple of red ones to rot; the base had gone a bit mouldy on two planted next to each other and a white one to eelworm. Managed to kill one of them but the other escaped deeper into the bulb before I could get a hold of him/her.

Good to hear you've got veggies Sprout.  I too have just picked up my first no dig spuds (Arran Pilot)  I would recommend them as they cooked up beautifully and were delicious.  No slug holes in or anything which was good as they were grown under black plastic on top of cardboard and manure so I expected slug casualites.  I grew some Desiree for that reason as apparently they are not very palatable to slugs.  Hope that turns out to be true.  Just off to the plot (if rain has stopped) to see if I have any more spuds.  Need to pick a fennel bulb too for our tea, oh and some garlic and onion  :)  I have some mediterranean garlic hanging up in the outhouse and when I opened the door it smelled lovely  :)
