Out of 10 original 'tender' echiums, only 2 have stood the test of time.  Here's hoping here in Essex we have seen the last of the hard frosts so these 2 can reach for the skies and flower.  This will be their third year, I think it is high time they did their stuff!

i am sorry to say that my echium-planted outside last summer-has succumbed to the weather i think. :(
when planted out last year it shot away in the ground, and stood fine until about 2 weeks ago.
luckily i kept the other one in the greenhouse and can see the beginnings of the flowers in the axils between the leaves. teeny weeny, but there!
they are exciting looking plants EJ, i first saw them at a garden in cormwall, where the stems were as thick as a small tree! but then their weather is different to mine.......
good luck with yours!

Is this echium pininana?  Did it flower this summer?  I've just planted some seeds of a blue/purple variety.  Would appreciate a pic posting if its done it's business.

Cheers.
