Organising a Show

This may not be the correct section for my question but no doubt someone will point me in the right direction if it isn't.

Last year, on our site, we organised our first allotment show, and a very modest affair it was too. It was successful in so far as it went, but this year we would like to organise it with more confidence, while taking into account the fact that we are all newbies when it comes to this 'show business'!

We don't know how many catagories to specify, and what documentation is required etc.

Is there anyone who could give us advice on how to proceed this year?

Thank you in anticipation

Hi Mary,  Have you got a local authority Allotment Officer.  They will have had lots of experience in organising Shows etc.  Ours is the Judge for the local Leek Show and he is always happy to offer advice or act as a Judge.  They may also have resources to advertise it for you. Have you thought about getting in touch with some seed merchants also who could sponsor you perhaps?

Well done your Site for organising a Show last year.  I only wish that our Site would be more proactive in organising something similar, as I think it is a positive way to bring lottie  people together. I am sure there will be others on this Board who can offer advice for this year Show.  Good luck with it.  :) busy_lizzie

We had our first show last year and were lucky enough to get a proper qualified judge. He adopted just the right tone for our first show and also gave us lots of advice. One of the considerations is time of year ( not much point in having a chrysanth class in July for amateur growers ). Another is whether you want to adopt full presentation rules etc. He gave us the programme for an established allotment based show he'd judged the previous week which was instructive.

I'll dig out the list he gave us with the presentation rules and classes etc and pm it to you.
