Sorry to have to ask this on such a miserable wet and windy day.  I am going to treat myself to an automatic watering system for my hanging basket and greenhouse plants this year (mainly to keep them alive while I am on holiday)  Haven't got a clue where to start.  Has anyone tried these?? Are they any good?? Or are they not worth the expense.

I have one that we purchased in Lidls last year.  We don't have a timer on it tho, which I think would be brilliant, but what it means is, I turn the tap on just a little, and over the course of an hour or so, water trickles out of lots of little spouts which are stuck into all of my conservatory plant pots!  Saves hours or lugging a watering can about in there during the summer!

I would say, you pays your money etc.  For me, if I needed it to save the green things whilst I was away, I would get a good one on a timer so you know you aren't going to have a flood, or a dry out!

i have my own home made watering system in the greenhouse and it would also work for individual pots.

All you do is buy a cheap hose and put small pin pricks in, experiemnt a bit first with a spare piece to see the exact size of hole you need.

Then buy a timer, you can get them off ebay for about £15. and set it to come on for about 30 minutes in morning, and 30 minute at evening. this may be slightly different, but a bit of trial and error will get it right.
