we have all raised beds 10" deep-we dig  a trench as deep as we can,sling in horse poo......little bit of soil,tatey,soil to cover ,then earth up from the mound at the side of the trench-last year we had taters in an area with very shallow soil and covered as best we could with soil available-we were still delighted with the crop(and we eats a lot o' tates!)
so this year should be even better....
got me boiling water at the ready! ;D

I am with Laurie, I just dig a hole where required and bung in a spud! Lazy me! ;D ;D (mind you has been manured etc over the winter)

i just finished planting mine today - my 1st time ever - i dug a trench about a spade deep .. and popped spud in . NO MANURE -  OR compost - OR bonemeal  :( filled in hole and raked lovely little hills on them ...

did spinkle with growmore and then raked over that ..

last year i grew some in the worst soil ever(and yours looks lovely!) and they grew fine.
truly-you've done a great job-and lottying is all about learning for next year too!


now-can you please make that picture a little larger-it only took 14 hours and 4 moniter widths to load-some of us are still on dial up you know!!!!!! ;) ;D ;D ;D

Have a look at this Microsoft webpage and the section on Image resizer.

Its a small program that lets you right click an image file an resize it - only takes 2 clicks and your done! it also  makes a copy so it doesn't mess up your original. Choosing the 640 x 480 option will be perfect for A4A forums.

I'm using Paintshop Pro at the moment, it's only a couple of clicks on that. There are loads of programs out there, including some free ones, and it's easy on all of them.
