I will be up in Birmingham Monday (24/4) and Tuesday (25/4) and am dying for a Balti curry but have been warned that the areas Sparkbrook, Balsall Heath and Moseley areas of south Birmingham are not the place for decent ladies to frequent on their own - even if she is just out hunting down a good curry.

Anyone know of a decent place close to ICC (or thereabouts), where I can get a good curry?  Take-away would be best.  Seems a pity not to have one in the Capital of Balti!

I am also going to go and see the Botanic Gardens on Monday so am really looking forward to that - if anyone has any tips please let me know.

Kind regards

They're not that bad round there! If you don't want to wander about, have a taxi deposit you at the door of the Shereen Kadah on Mosely Road, and get another to pick you up later. You won't be disappointed. It's a pity you didn't come earlier, my plot's just behind the Botanical Gardens, but I'll be in school.

I can't recommend from experience but this link is very local to the Botanical Gardens and the ICC.

Hope this helps ;)

Dear Robert, Roy and Aliska

Thanks so much for all your replies - just to report that I eventually walked up the road to Bombay Mix (a couple of blocks up) and had a mixed (prawn, chicken and lamb) Balti - it was not too bad - a bit kinda stewey, but then maybe it was just the restaurant.  I think that I would have preferred a nice hot lamb curry (my favourite).  Yumm ::)

Would have loved to see your lottie though!  Sigh, maybe another time.  I was very impressed by all the new building going on in the city centre and spent a lovely afternoon visiting all the sights (including the museum).  Got stuck in the horrendous traffic jam at the National Museum Roundabout - sat in the taxi for an hour with the meter ticking!!! ::)  Now that's gonna take some explaining to my boss - £16.00 taxi fare.  Then the train was 30 minutes late due to a fire outside Birmingham so only got home at 21:00.

You missed a lot. I've never seen any of those places recommended anywhere.
