Weedbusta. That  pieris forest flame was put in last year. I do have a bigger one in another little section. It is one of my favourites as well. I only have small areas for growing. There is a much larger area at the side of the bungalow but I am only allowed to grass that area (sshhh, don't tell anyone I have  squeezed a couple of borders out there!! ;D)

Your garden looks good Lorna and pleased to hear that you have taken out two conifers.   ;D ;D

They are all right in their place ie. in a large pinetum or forest but in back gardens they can be a menace.  We had 20 cut down either side of our drive but they had already put roots into our main sewer.  Fortunately, the insurance covered the repairs.   ;D

You must have an acidic soil to be able to grow Pieris or maybe the conifers have made it that way with their needles.  Pieris is one of my OH's favourites but we are on chalk here.  Maybe next year we will have a raised bed with ericacious soil so we can grow the acid loving plants.   :D

I am sure without the conifers you will have more sun in your garden and well done for all your hard work Lorna in making such a varied and beautiful garden, even if it is only small.   ;D ;D

Thanks folk! Pauline I keep meaning to buy a soil tester as I have no idea about my soil. I do know through out the Fens we do have brilliant growing soil. I did plant the Pieris and all the heathers  with plenty of  ericaceous soil and also give them ericaceous feed.
If anyone asks me the name of the shrubs I have to look at the name tag as I have some funny sounding names, and some of them I have never heard of LOL
