Can anyone help identify these flowers please?
The first picture (mauve fluffy flowers) grows to about 5' tall
and the other is in a basket (has been for years) and flowers most of the growing year.

Tulipa

I can't help you but am intrigued to know what they are.  I thought the one in the basket looks like a vinca of some sort from the shape of the flower and leaves.  Looks a very useful plant for a basket if it flowers so long like that.  When someone identifies it I shall rush out and try and get one!

Are they both in flower at the moment?

The hanging basket flower looks like a geranium (not the half hardy Pelargonium) crane's-bill.  The first one I don't know, but as soon as it is identified I'll be buying one. Lovely plant agapanthus.

Hi,

I think the second one is Saponaria ocymoides. The first one is definately Thalictrum!

Thank you Barkingdog....just googled for a look and it's definitely that! ;D
Picked it up a while back (about 9 years) ....was cheap at a roadside nursery in suffolk...'bout
50p if I remember correctly. It is an absolute gem of a plant. Starts flowering
at the beginning of spring....I then give it a haircut when the flowers start fading
...early summer and within a couple of weeks it's in full flower again. I've only repotted it
twice since I've had it, but do feed it.
Thanks for everyone's help. ;D

Hi Mike,

The picture in your book might be Thalictrum Delvayi or T flavum.  As with many plants there are a selection of variants within the species.  Just like with us lot!

Aha!.  I killed the one on the right hand picture  twice in my Alpine troughs so held off getting Hewitts Double at the time because I thought I's kill that too.  Now I see it would have been out of proportion in the alpine corner.  Now, if I can just manufacture a space.........
