Hi all.  A few weeks a go I read that it was possible to grow watercress in pots, provided you stood the pot in a couple of inches of water.  I was a bit sceptical but decided to give it a go and it works.   ;D  G x

i read somewhere that you needed it to be running water to illiminate the problem of a certasin bug living in the water and then transfering to the water cress

Maybe there is something nice you can add to stop this, I tried to find the thread that it was contained in as some one wanted to do it on there allotment on a bigger scale,

Just wantcha safe chuck thats all

I went for a walk along the river Chess recently with my mum. Lots of watercress growing there. My mum said it wasn't safe to eat because it can give you some kind of worms . Does anyone know about this ??? ?

If there are sheep around, it's best avoided. The liver fluke alternates between sheep and water snails at different stages of development, and if you get one you've got problems.

Not potty at all, Georgie. An old pic.

Hi Tim, thanks for the reassurance.   :)

I have done this too this year for the first time.

The 2 10" pots have kept us in a constant supply for weeks now, very impressed and pleased.

My pots are in saucers with about a cm of water standing in them. Positioned in a shady corner of the greenhouse. The more you pick the more you get it seems.

Nice and peppery too!

Did you grow it from seed?  If so what supplier please.   I am most impressed.    Would love to try the same .  Anymore tips.

tim

If that's me - we used Marshalls' Aqua.

I used T&M's offering, simply called Water Cress on their web site.

Another pick tonight to go with bacon and home grown scambled eggs........yum!

you don't need seed to grow watercress.buy a bit in a shop and it just grows roots
I have lots in my wildlife pond, it keeps the water clear and the slime away
I wouldn't eat it though I'll leave it to the todpoles
