I haven't been able to see anything like aphids or suchlike on them, but something is eating the tips of the tightly closed buds on my Polestar runner beans. Anyone know what this could be - and how to prevent it happening? I'm not going to get any beans at this rate :( . Thanks.

The culprits are probably birds, Tricia.  I've had flocks of sparrows eating mine in the garden even with me standing there!  >:(

Ah! Thanks for that Myrtle - You would think that with the number of bird feeders I have around my garden the blighters could leave the beans alone ::). Come to think of it I remember the beans had to be netted to keep the birds off last year - but not at this early stage. I hung a couple of CD's on the wigwam canes yesterday - will now hang more and hope they will keep the cheeky monkeys away.

I think that it depends on who the CDs are by......................................................
