Anyone growing these cherry toms? Mine have loads of fruit but it's not showing any signs of ripening  :(. The plants are outdoors planted in a large container.

I have 7 Gartenperles, with hunnerds of flowers, loads of fruit, 4 inside, 3 outside and to date I've picked ONE tomato !!!!!

Be patient !  I've seen a couple more turning so it's just a matter of time !

tbh it's not a variety that I'll grow in such a quantity again, but it was a learning curve this year.

;D

Thanks Mrs KP. I imagine all the fruit will ripen together, on the day we go on holiday ::).

I am in my second year of growing these. I tried a few of them in baskets last year but I find they do better in large pots. I got a good crop last year, and things are looking good for this year too. That said only a few have ripened so far (but they are ahead of many of the cordon types i grow). Once they get going though there (should) be no stopping them!

I sowed mine late (my cordons and beefs were already planted out) and they seem to be catching up (although with just one beef set and one ripe cordon it's not a long way to go to catch up!) but I do have loads of fruit - they just aren't yet ripe - what I think will happen is that once they start to ripen they'll go quickly.

Apparently ripe fruit give off some smell/chemical which encourages others to ripen so once they start to go they all go - someone once told me that if you put a ripe banana near them that speeds things along - but I've not tried it and can't recommend it or say it works.

Grew gartenperle last year, also this year. The best plants were chosen to go in a large (45cm) pot in my back garden, lots of fruit on them which hasn't started ripening yet.

Another couple of plants which hung around for a bit and were looking very sad, were planted direct out into the allotment. These plants still look awful, but they've fruited and ripened. Maybe we're being too kind to them in the pots  ;D

This is my first year growing these 'trailing' tomatoes and I've got 7 plants....3 pots with 2 in each and 1 plant in a hanging basket (along with some trailing stuff for attraction which the bees have loved).....the ones in the pots are doing much better than the one in the hanging basket....well to be precise....the fruit is much tinier in the hanging basket!

Suddenly in the last 2 or 3 days - the colour is changing significantly on some (not all) of the fruits and I too can see mine all being ready to pick when I go on a short holiday Monday week!!

s**ds law that! ;)

They are quite tough plants. Last year i grew some of mine in pots in the greenhouse. They didnt do so well - they got very leggy and weak (clearly too hot for them). I moved them outside with the others, and they were fine again. Conversely I grew a few in baskets and they didnt do so well. Outside in pots seems the 'happy medium' ;-)

i am growing the ones i got from the grow your own magazine (there was quite a thread  about them earlier in the season). after some initial worries mine are doing great. they are in baskets, so probably not as productive as some others but there a plenty on there. taking a long time to ripen but i am always impatient with tomatoes ripening and i know that they get there eventually and i have to be patient!

All my Gartenperle died for reasons unkown, I  have only lost one other plant from the dozens I am growing. Mine were the 'Grow your own' ones.

Hot_Potato

after earlier thinking my Gartenperle in pots (& a hanging basket) might not ripen - some suddenly began to 'change colour' a day or two ago and today I picked 5 of them!!.....maybe they're not quite as ripe as they could be but have eaten one to try it....lovely! but not as sweet as some 'pale orangey  coloured' cherry tomatoes I had whilst out at a children's tea party' this afternoon.

Leaving the other 4 a day or two longer indoors to ripen a bit more but lots more are now beginning to 'turn.'....I've got quite a few fruits on my thick healthy plants but at my son & d.i.l's today - saw their plant, which I potted up for them earlier in the season (just one plant to a pot) and they've literally got dozens & dozens and dozens of tomatoes on them with some a lovely red!....my son reckons there's nearly a hundred fruits on the plant and think I'd probably agree with him....I'd call that a great success  :D

definitely think I'll grow them again and they were free!.....also with the GYO mag!....I've watered them profusely every day tho.

Never grown them before but still awaiting anything vaguely pink/red/whatever other than green before the inevitable blight hits :(

Me too Jill! Have loads of green fruit on the plants, so it's just a waiting game, have jars ready for chutney etc!

;)

Some o0f my fruit has tuned pink  ;D!

Mine are now ripening like mad. One day they were green, then after an away day there are loads turning various shades of yellow orange and red.

I have even picked and eaten a few. Mmmm! Lovely  ;D ;D ;D
