No Pumpkins

Hi all,

        Neither of my pumpkin plants (Big Max and Hundredweight) have any fruit, although the plants themselves are sprawling out. There are absolutely loads of male flowers but so far I have only spotted a small fruit beginning to grow, and then over the next couple of days it turned brown, soggy and is no more.
  My question is this, is there any hope of fruit this late or should I pull up the plants? They're growing amongst the dahlias at the moment so no doubt they're taking a lot out of the ground... but then, if there's hope I'll leave them!

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
leave them if they are not harming anything.
you may still get fruit but they will be only small

i've had the same problem with all my pumpkins and butternuts...

My colleague at work says he has it.  The pumpkin he is growing is taking over his and a neibouring plot.  We will try and get a picture.

Last year I planted my "Big Max" on the muck heap and had only one fruit at a modest size :'( This year I planted "Big Max" On the same spot after using all last years muck and got three pumpkins the size of a football (well almost ;D) I wonder how much bigger it will get by Halloween ;D assuming kids don't nick em b4hand :-\ ;D

My plants seem to have gone pumpkin crazy, I have so many it makes my head spin. All except my numerous butternuts, which just can't be bothered fruiting.

Much the same here; I've got three West indian pumpkin out of four plants, no Nothern Bush, no butternuts, and only one Veg Spaghetti. I blame the drought.

Hi folks
I have got several pumpkins but they are all green - nothing like the lovely orange pumpkin on the seed packet.  Will they change colour and when should I pick them? Would be very grateful for advice as have never grown them before. :)

I think the reason mine have done so well is becasue of the way I planted them.

Instead of planting them on mounds I planted them on the side of deep craters, near the bottom.

This was a technique employed by native american tribes living in dry areas. I took a gamble that the forecast drought would occurr.

The mass of vines is so tangled I have no idea exactly how many fruit per plant has been born, but there are loads and loads of pumpkins visible. I can't wait for harvest.

Thank you Supersprout - still not sure if the colour will change or not but will wait and see.  The squash I planted are already like golden globes and beginning to darken now but the pumpkin look like huge dumpy marrows - I swear they grow as you watch them. :)
