Toms - Piccolo

Hi to all, this is a bit of a long shot, but here goes... does anyone have any idea where I can get seeds of the tomato variety 'Piccolo' from? I've hunted around on search engines to no avail.
  I grew lots of varieties this year, but the three most successful (Chelsea Mini, Bistro and Alacante) aren't at all like the lovely, sweet toms that are available to buy. The best variety I've tasted this year over a long period were on-the-vine 'Piccolo' and I'd love to have a go at growing them. I think they were from Italy, but is there anyone who knows of any seed merchants who might sell them? They seem quite rare.

...perhaps you could get directly in contact and see if the individual growing the variety has some spare saved seed/knows a seed source?

Guessing here, think piccolo means small in italian, so maybe it's just a cherry tomato, not a specific variety?

I've just had a look in Franchi (www.seedsofitaly.com) and my favourite people for toms and chillies, Simpson's (www.simpsonsseeds.co.uk) and neither list it, so I suspect JennyM could be right. But both the above companies are well worth checking out for good tomato varieties.

Interesting replies, thanks to all those who commented. I'm pretty sure it said 'variety' above the word Piccolo though.

If anyone can recommend a great variety to grow which closely mimics the sweetness/flavours/textures of the cherry toms on the vine bought in the supermarkets then I'd be very grateful.

I know we're all supposed to marvel in wonder at the differences between shop-bought veg and home-grown but so far with tomatoes the shop-bought toms have won hands down! I haven't grown too many varieties over the years though:

Common Clay--sweet million takes some beating as a  regular cherry,then comes Santa-more a baby plum though-you would have to put me in a barrel of burning pitch and roast my goolies before I would confess to Moneymaker being worth growing space ;)

Roasted goolies? Yum... but would they go with courgettes?  ;D thanks for the tips!
