HI all, I've got a great pomegranate tree here in Spain. My mum is here on holiday and asked if she could take a fruit and and try to grow a pomegranate tree. Any advice about preparing the seed ready to plant?? Also the fruit are not fully grown yet, but not fat off!

Rats, I hate my computer... just went to insert a Photo and it lost the answer I had typed in....
Try again... I am now really jealous Biscombe... I have grown a couple of Dwarf Poms. from seed and it has taken me nearly 15 years to get this far..

You might get better advice from Grow Organic (HDRA) at Coventry... one of their experimental sections deals with crops for tropical and sub tropical crops....

My advice would be to ferment them like toms... both have hard seed in side a fleshy/juice sac.. designed to be eaten but survive digestion and be dispersed and deposited with their own pot of fertiliser!
Roll a weight gently over the seeds to burst the sacs, put into water and allow a mould to develop... they digest the flesh.. rinse off and if seeds are clean of flesh dry on paper towel for a couple of days/week... if not repeat soaking until they are clean. May need a could period to induce germination so pot some up and put outside if temp will dip below freezing, or leave in the fridge, in a plastic bag (the pot)... for a week or two...

If you can get better advice take it!

You can't post me a pic of a whole tree in flower can you?

Are all the flowers red? I read in a book that there were pink and bicoloured forms as well...

I've grown pomegranate plants this year from a bought pomegranate. I didn't do anything special, just took the seeds out and planted in compost and I've got 15 or more plants.I'm just a bit gutted I've got to wait 15 years to get a plant as good as yours Saddad ;D ;) :(/shades x
