Hi
I think that you are trying to record on to a DVD-R, DVD being important. I am not certain but it may be that your drive plays pre-recorded DVD's, but only records onto CD-R or CD-RW.
The fact that you say click write to CD makes me think this. You van put images on Cd's. CD-r you can only do once and cannot change it. CD-RW can be changed.

As a bye the way, I found the Microsoft programme to record  a bit tedious and used some software that was installed with the player, and once I had worked it out it was much easier. I have Nero burning programme.

I also only recently tried out memory sticks that you plug into the USB  socket. They are very good to use and ideal if you want to take the file with you to another PC.

I am no wizard but I think it is using a DVD taht is your problem.

ipt8? Sounds a bit like R2D2!!

15 mins for a reply? Not bad - great site!!

Right - I'll work on that. Thought that CD & DVD were interchangeable.

On my DVD/CD writer,  if you select 'write to CD' and you've got a DVD in the drive it says "there is no disk in the drive"

Could it just be that you need to select 'write to DVD'?

Have you cracked it yet TIM

I have this problem too and I've tried all sorts of blank DVDs/CDs etc.  Sometimes I write to the CD etc and is says no disk and at other times where I have written to the CD etc it will say the disk is full but when I look in explorer there is nothing there!  I'm wondering if it's my CD/DVD drive although it's been like this since I bought it!  I have a CD-R of photos that a friend gave me and this shows them fine - so frustrating!  Would love to know if you've figured it out!

I am no computer wiz,  CD discs bought from Aldi and Mr Data disc.
I go to my photos and in the left it says Copy all to Disc I click it and the then go to the CD Writer. A mesage then comes up bottom right telling me there are file waiting to be written to disc, I click this and they open and i then copy to the disc compliments of some Wizard thats on here.

iggy

sounds silly but i think you might only have a cd rw and dvd play drive there tim

Deep in 'it', but grateful for all the leads!!

Trying to find a CD to see if that works.

I hope i not telling you how to suck eggs... but you have got it in the drive the correct way up ? Most blank CDROM's and DVD's have no printing on them at all, so can quite easily be put in up side down by mistake.

I beg to differ  ;)

I'm pretty sure that Keef's right.

You only have to format if you want to use a re-rewrirteable disc as a rewriteable rather than a 'finalised' disc that cannot be addded to piecemeal.

I've never formatted an ordinary DVD or CD

Don't know if you have cracked this yet Tim but some writers just seem to be temperamental. The one I used to use at work would constantly insist that some discs were not empty even when they were freshly opened. Eventually it would find one to it's liking and burn away happily. Try a few more discs. You have nothing to lose (except money :D). Sounds like you are having the same problem I used to have amanda21.

AT LAST!!  Thanks for holding my hand.

Daughter got me a CD today & I went back to the CD burner & that worked. I'll have to figure the DVD writing later, when I need it.

Yes Keef, you are right of course. I was simply referring to RW disca but failed to clarify this point

Hello again
Just thought I would let you know I have also been having problems recording photos to A CD-RW. This previously worked but will now only copy files and not photos. I emailed the company who provided the software on my PC (Nero) to do recording and they sent me a long list of things to check.

Basically they thought the most likely problem was the drivers need to be updated. I tried this but nothing was found when the search was done. So I dug out the old installation CD for the Nero software that came with the PC, re-installed the drivers and hey presto it works again.

I think that the automatic updates I have from Microsoft must have upset something. Just thought you may have the same problem as this was at about the same time.

All beyond me, but a neighbour copied an RAF video onto CD for me, only to say that it only works with Nero. Which I don't have!!
