it seems that we are going to be able to have some allotments in our village!!
WOOOOOO HOOOOO!
anyhoo, we are going to have to organise it/manage it ourselves which will be ok.
but i need some help and pointers if any of you could assist ;)
any info on any of these subjects would be very much appreciated!
(i can use a spade but other than that if it doesnt say 'baaa' or 'woof' i dont know what i'm doing!)

insurance
constitutions
structure
membership (application forms, rules, contracts, rent etc)
leases
funding
'shopping list' of stuff we need to get ie rabbit proof fencing
anything else!

i popped out to have a look at the site we may get, and at the moment it is pasture land. a few thistles and lots of clover! i didnt see any bindweed (too good to be true i'm sure).

i am going to contact the national association of allotments for some advice, but i cant access their website at the moment.

thanks in advance guys! and also a huge thankyou to 'missy' though i dont know if she has posted yet. i would still only be thinking about trying to get something sorted if it wasnt for her sorting it all out! cheers mate!
come on show yourself or they are going to think i have an imaginary friend ;)

Well done Bunjies....
the National would be a good place to start.. our exemplars wouldn't work for you as you will have a landlord (Parish Council?)

cambourne7

HI

Who are you leasing it from?

Parish Council?

cambourne7

bunjies

yep its from the parish council but will be run by the committee (which we also have to organise)

Hello, I'm here, no so imaginary now eh.
As far as I can make out the land is council owned but given in some way to the parish council. We have to go to the parish council to get the go ahead from them to use the land as allotments, as the original allotment land has been used to put in some kind of community garden. The parish will then forward their backing to the council and the parish will then have that land as allotment land. :-*
We that's bunjy and me will then have to form a committee of like minded soil luvin peeps to manage and run the said bit of green gold.
I'm hoping that a lot will be clarified by the P/Council on the 8th of Nov.
We have to come up with a plan and an idea about managing this site. We are also going to need letters of support, we already have verbal support from the area police and the head of the parish council.
This going to be one hela ov a roller coaster ride. I'm so excited I can't tell you what this is like. Still feeling like we have one the lottery. :D

bunjies

great news the head of the parish council has come back, with news that she has checked with planning office and we wont need planning permission for small sheds.

Thank you for all your lovely replies. Bungies now has a box file (she looks really organised) full of lots of info that we need to soak up in a reletively short period of time.
we will be off around the village to leaflet drop everyone to spread the word and motivate people this week.
