Does anyone know if you can use Vodka instead of Gin

Have just done mine tonight. I always use this one and it has never failed for me. I picked 3 pounds of Sloes in 5 mins. Loads around this year
Jon
Ingredients
450g/1lb sloes
225g/8oz caster sugar
1 litre/1¾ pint gin

Method
1. Prick the tough skin of the sloes all over with a clean needle and put in a large sterilised jar.
2. Pour in the sugar and the gin, seal tightly and shake well.
3. Store in a cool, dark cupboard and shake every other day for a week. Then shake once a week for two months.
4. The sloe gin will now be a beautiful dark red and ready to drink, although it will still improve with keeping.
5. Variation: make blackberry brandy in the same way, substituting blackberries for the sloes and brandy for the gin. Blackberries do not need pricking.

Yes!

;D

Many peeps actually prefer it, because it isn't then laced with all the junipery things that flavour gin.

By the way, Jon, if you do a search on 'sloe gin', you'll find lots and lots of stuff of interest.  :)

Personally, I gave up pricking sloes years ago (more holes in my hands than in the sloes, mostly!) and now just wash em, bag em and bung em into the freezer till their skins burst. Does the job v nicely!

... In fact, if you're feeling really brave/boozy, why not have a peep at the A4A 'Drinks' section?

Not that we're a bunch of alkies here or anything  ;) ;D

Just spent over 2 hours pricking them, will freeze them next time, thanks

Poor you...  Have you still got any SG from previous years? Marvellous painkiller for sore fingers, if taken at regular intervals!

As many peeps know on here, I'm easily confused  ;D  but someone's just sent me a link to another forum and now I feel a bit silly.

Why would you ask here if it's possible to make sloe vodka, when just minutes before (in a parallel dimension!) you'd already 'tryed' some of the sizeable stash that your Polish workers bring you every time they go home.
