Hi all! Thought maybe some of you have a good source for smokeless coal? Everyone I know just buys it by the bag at the petrol station, which can't be the best price. I've moved my art studio home so have to figure out a way to cut my heating costs, so the fireplace will be used this winter. :) It pains me to even burn coal but I don't have a source of firewood either and don't drive so it's difficult to even go collect too much. Any good tips?

Tina.

In Cheshire we are blessed with thriving farm shops and I buy mine by the bag there.  You get the option of differrent grades.

My neighbour gets a bulk delivery from the local coal merchant, try yellow pages.
is it in the sale?

I would suggest the yellow pages too, we have a coal merchant in our village so they do still exist.

I remember the days of having to count the sacks going past the window for my mum....

Timelady - I'm in West London but still have the coal man deliver in the winter.  I'm sure if you look in Yellow pages or Thomson Directory you'll find someone - and they won't supply anything but smokeless.

In Sussex we use Corals Coal, do not think they are nationwide though.....................we found them in the yellow pages after our local coal merchant closed.  :(
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Hi Dan,  probably not cost effective for you to traipse out to the Southern borders of the county.  Probably too posh round Wilmslow way for a farm shop - all the farms ar turned into fotballer's pads!.

Will pm.

Doris, thanks for that link but you have to order a tonne, literally!  ;D I think my floor would collapse...

I did find CPL online, they're the brand of the single bags my friends get at the petrol station and it's cheaper online direct from them. But will check the yellow pages first to see if I can find a better deal.  Why didn't I think of that? I'm *too* online thinking sometimes.

Ta!
