new postage rates

Just a general warning about posting large seeds like beans or squash seed.  The new rates for 'normal' and 'large' letters take into account the thickness of the letter as well as weight and size. The limit for a normal letter is 5mm. I suspect that letters go trough a measuring slot as the post is processed and that those that are too thick are separated from the rest. There appears to be a 'running in' period at the moment with letters being stamped to say that postage is underpaid but no charge was made on this occasion.

I think the trouble with big seeds like beans is that the contents of the letter can settle towards one side, making the letter thicker and so being separated out  :( .   Any clever ideas on how to deal with this? Stick the seeds down individually  with double-sided tape on a piece of paper  :-\ ::)?

Put the bag of seeds between two pieces of thick card and wrap sellotape round it all.
