Grow your own veg. is being shown on BBC2 on Monday 15th Jan at 7:30pm. I don't know if it is a repeat or a new episode.

says "gets down to earth with root veggies, " so would take a guess at a repeat  :)

it was definitely better - the deep bed carrots & parsnips were very impressive.  Determined now to get my bath root bed ready.

Kitten, your carrots will be full of tiny holes containing tiny white grubs.  The carrots look bruised almost - sometimes it is quite hard to tell until you peel them.  Fleece for me is the only way!

Still trying to work out how to stop the lottie foxes from ripping the fleece to shreds, which they seem to do every time I cover anything.    ( ::)

MrsKP

you know me so well cornykev  :P

Link here says Episode Two is repeated tonight 7.30 till 8, and again Weds 17th at 12.55 (midnight) - http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/whatson/search/genre.cgi?genre=life_gardening

The BBC page for the the show is quite good, tells you about each episode.

I thought it was okay on the whole, definitely aimed at beginners and to encourage newbies.  If a programme was put on aimed at more experienced people it would perhaps only get a more limited population watching it.  The way they've marketed it will get a more broad population of generic TV viewers. Even my garden-phobic OH watched it through (although I think the pretty Swede did help when his interest started to wain!).  It would be nice to have a bit more info, like why were the RHS ladies collecting twigs...?  But then the programme is only half an hour long so is quite limited to what they can fit in.  Maybe there is a gap in the market - anyone fancy making a gardening DVD?!?!

;D

PS there is also a book to go with the series, reviewed here on the RHS website...

grow your own way

MrsKP

perhaps a year of oohing and aahing at my first tom/beet/carrot/onion/leek/spud/courgette/broadie has elevated me to the lofty position of experienced grower !    :o

Au contraire, I still like to believe I am firmly in the novice category but need a bit more than happy and beautiful family bounding about their oh so lovely rich and nutritous soiled plot !

I can almost see the Colgate sparkle whenever they smile !

I need information about bugs and pests and diseases, none of which will ever descend on the beautiful plot.

Oh and the DVD will be available for those that want anytime after the final episode.

;D
