Fruit Trees

Can somebody please advise me on what stock I need for small fruit trees. We are not allowed to grow fruit trees over 7' on our allotment, but I would like to try a few.
I have seen a tree that grew upwards about 7' but did not spread over 2' and it had loads of fruit on it,(no idea what it was called).
I have looked in the seed books but all they say is 'not vigorous' or 'average' and that does not help at all.
The trees are too expensive to make a guess at, so I would like to get it right first time.

M9 apple trees grow to about 8ft. You could always prune it down a little.
I got 2 M26 apple trees 3 months ago. max height of 12ft. I will just prune it a little to keep it under control. Will probably regret it for not getting smaller ones.

Guess that was me being impatient not being able to find the rootstock on the varieties I wanted...

we've just ordered 4 trees from victoriana nursery on line, a peach, a cherry and two different plums, all on small rootstock, says it's easy to keep them dow to 7 to 8  feet, have a look, there's loads of different ones, may give you some good ideas  :)

Do you mean Ballerina apples? They grow as a single column without branching, for pots or very small gardens. Hopefully they won't spread propaganda for the BNP!

Robert- is it only apples that grow like that? I would like to grow a few different fruit trees, but I must admit I have only seen apples.

Have a look at Ken Muir's website. He has minarettes which grow in a column 6-8 feet high, planting distances 2-3 feet. Cherries, apples, damsons, gages, plums, pears.www.kenmuir.co.uk. Currently has 20% off some. Also does duo minarettes with e.g. 2 different apples on the same tree.

Jon Munday from Blackmoor nurseries has told me that you can achieve the spire effect with most fruit trees. Just start with a maiden on dwarf root stock and prune accordingly.

"Choose Apple trees on M26 rootstock,or Plums on Pixy, Cherries on Giesla 5 Stock"

Have fruit trees on dwarfing rootstocks at very reasonable prices I've been thinking about these myself but have no experience of this company.
