Fantastic days work

I was beginning to get a bit worried about how much of my plot was not dug.  I spent most of the day today digging weeds, grass and other nasties out.  The plot was hand dug really well last year by my brother and a ton of manure was spread.  I spent the best part of two hours rotavating making sure I went over the same area at least twice.  Now I ache in places you shouldn't ache!

Tomorrow my girlfriend and I will spend a few hours finishing the preparation by shifting a lot of the larger stones as the plot seems to have more than Chesel beach, spreading fertiliser, raking, putting the canes in ready for the beans and peas and generally marking out what is going where.

I would like to put my potatoes in but it might be a bit early still as I wouldn't be surprised if there is another frost or two.

Wow, you've been busy!  Don't forget to have a nice long soak in the bath once you're done tomorrow  ;)  ;D

Believe me, when you stand back and look at that cleared ground you will be so chuffed and it'll all be worth it when you start sowing. Best advice I've been given I think is to get some quick growers in there like radish or lettuce as soon as you can so you reap instant rewards! gOOD MOTIVATION! I know just how you're feeling as I spent the last 3 months digging and clearing, trying to get down there whenever I had spare hour or two.
I just gave myself the bottom third of the plot to completely clear but ended up doing other odd patches for strawbs and fruit trees. rasp canes etc. Love the patch now though and putting spuds in this week weather permitting!!
Happy digging!  ::)
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

Talking of potatoes, I sowed my first earlies today. They will take a couple of weeks to even show a hint above ground, at which I will earth them up anyway. Thus there will not be a lot for any rogue frosts to get hold of. I reserve putting my maincrop in until early or mid April, as there seems other more important tasks to do first.
The impossible is just a journey away ...

good feeling isnt it?.............getting out there and getting things done.............been up to the plot today myself and was busy.............posts in for gates...........more posts in for intended fruit area................for netting.....training apples .pears......ect.
highlight of the day............?
uncovering a few raised beds that were made last year..............well weeded and hard work at the time............but now........?
brilliant..............not a major weed in sight.............just lovely clean soil that was warm and smelt great...........a fantastic sight and feeling after the hard graft of last year.....lesson for newbies here..............DONT GET DISHEARTENED!
going back up today to see just how much the weed suppressant stuff did on two beds that were not weeded or worked on last year...........just marked out and covered.............that should be fun!

Yesterday was freezing, with cruel & biting gales so no plot time for me!

Today, with OH in tow, went down and only planted the plug plants. It's such a beautiful day that I would have loved to have spent many hours on the plot, but as OH & I only have one day together a week - and he's not a gardening fan - so we compromised.
