We got our allotment about a month ago and have been steadily buying/ planting various seeds. I have been looking out for the above things to plant but have not seen anywhere. am I  now too late to be planting these? Where would be a good place to buy them if it isn't? thanks all!

Mrs Ava

I know our local nursery has now sold out of onion sets.  To be honest, I would think it was really a little on the late side.  You could try telephoning some of the mail order companies like Marshalls to see if they still have any stock left.  If all else fails, sow plenty of spring onions and leeks to see you through this year.

My local Wilkinsons store had bucket loads of them at the weekend.

Various white sets £1.00/500g, = approx 150 sets
Red sets £1.00/250g.
Shallots £1.00/500g, = approx 20 shallots

I'm guessing not heat treated at these prices !

Not bad prices for  a shop. I paid about half this in the lottie shop.

Garlic should be planted in Nov., so your either a bit too early, or way too late.

If you can't get onion sets, you can always sow onion seed, got some lovely onions last year from a row sown direct into the soil about May(ish) and kept well watered.

Marshalls delivered my sets last week, but I did order about 6 weeks ago.

Forking Good - if they are not heat treated, does that make them more succeptable to bolting?
is it in the sale?
