and what would you do
there's a derelict farm near us, when we go past it sometimes, there's a big white van, sometimes a car as well, the van's doors are open and it's backed up to the barn door..when it's not there, he door's closed with all sorts of rubbish piled up outside it
do I do something or am I too suspicious
your ideas, please  :)

My oh seems to see similar goings on ,so if in doubt he will make a note of reg 'plates.

Jeannine

Sounds very fishy to me.

Reasons...

An illicit love affair.

New owners, looking over the place.

Old owners reminiscing about the older days.

Drug smugglers.

Drug growers.

It's full of illegal immigrants.

All very odd. I like number one best, but I think I would be being more nosey, can you see inside through a crack. With caution I might add.

I think I would be phoning somewhere.

But then I am suspicious too, definately sound fishy to me,and that is what block watch is all about.

I don't think I can get near enough to look, it's on it's own , the whole place is falling down so, I don't think anyone's thinking of buying it, they're not looking around, just in the barn, a few times now..I don't want to waste police time, they've got enough to do, especially if it's only something silly
wondering about crime stoppers ?

i don't think they would be going back all the time ?
it's got me really puzzled, I'm going to have to do something !!  :-\

Jeannine

Actually it could be fly tippers you know, they could have found an isolated spot to dump something bad on a regular basis, it does happen, and they would put it out of sight, that's worth a  thought.

If they are going to the trouble of putting junk on front of the door, there is some reason why they don't want people to go in the barn and it would seem strange that they would take the risk of leaving something valuable in there, even if it was stolen.

Do they always come at the same time?

Worrying isn't it? If you do nothing, and later on it turns out something really bad was going on, you will never forgive yourself. My choice would be crimestoppers. Just explain it as you have to us, it's anonymous and you may well be helping someone out!

i think it's probably gardeners of an different sort.  ;D
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

If i was in your shoes i would be straight down to my local Police Station and report it. The reality is we live in a world of terrorism as well as organised crime and drug related crimes. What you have seen may be nothing but no one will ever criticise you for for reporting it, on the other hand if you don,t and what you have seen results in the loss of life you have to live with that for the rest of your life.
I have known a few people who have never completed the sentence " It will never happen to me".
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

Do you know who owns the property? Farm buildings are often rented out for storage. My brother rents one. He just keeps dirty bulky stuff for his work there, nothing valuable. I'd ask around the neibourhood, spread the word about what you've seen, someone will know something.

Jeannine

I would phone the police, tell them you are concerned, I think they will investigate it,XX Jeannine

Could it be someone illegally stabling a horse

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL, IF IN ANY DOUBT CALL THE POLICE.( if you can find one)
I WOULD HATE TO SEE ANY OF OUR FRIENDS HURT.

asbean

I'd call the police, if they're legit it's no problem, and they wouldn't mind questions.

thanks for the advice, folks, I'll keep you informed  :)

Heldi

Call the police then you've done your bit , it's off your shoulders and in the hands of the people who should be dealing with it. Simple pimple.

If it's nothing...it's nothing,if it turns out to be criminal then well done to you.

This should give you a laugh then!

A few years ago I was walking my 4 dogs and my friends 4 large gun dogs on Exmoor in a forest late autumn time!
Went round a corner and there was a man crouching down with a back pack on and he was holding a knife.  I though Oh my lord!  Not wanting to turn tail in case it gave him the idea to chase me - I can run but I was 2 miles from any habitation! I decided to walk past said man.

He stood up and said in a foreign accent "you have a lot of dogs" thankfully I thought Yes I do! and then I carried on - trouble was I was on a round route and needed to walk to top to get back home whereby he may have doubled back.  I was pretty hot and sweaty by the time I got home!  Called the police who immediately sent out a couple of cars.

They came back about 3 hours later - splitting their sides with mirth - the "man with a knife" was none other than a local Italian Restauranteur who was out looking for fungi - which is why he was crouched down looking along at ground level for fungi!

He saw the funny side - so did I but makes you think though!

Have a lovely weekend everyone

I'd call the police too, and let them deal with it.  Like everyone else has said, it could be goodness knows what going on there, and genuine people won't mind being asked a few questions.  Let us know the outcome!  (& be careful!) x
