Hi,

I wonder if you could help.

I am writing a feature about allotments for the Daily Mirror. It follows on from a new British film called Grow Your Own, which opens on Friday and focuses on the great British allotment.

I am looking for people who have interesting stories behind their allotments, or perhaps have a particularly unusual looking patch. Maybe someone looks after their plot to help remember a relative who passed away, or perhaps there is a couple who found love across the allotments, or maybe there's someone who has a themed-allotment?
Any interesting stories would be greatly appreciated.

All it would need is a quick 10-minute phone chat and a photo of the person in their plot.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Kate

Would people fighting to get more allotment space count?

Why not just give me the money and I'll write a story?

Would someone who just grows veg and enjoys it be too boring then?

;D

Love across the allotments, now that's a first, I will be watching everybody this week,John and I tend to chuck plant pots at each other, and that is on good days!!

Wait a minute!!! What about JRP, he must surely qualify, plots don't come much differnt to his.

Kate, seriously, look up his profile and find his post called I can,can you.
When God blesses you with a multitude of seeds double  the blessing by sharing your  seeds with other folks.

Jeannine. If that doesn't scare her off I don't know what will!
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

I'm not sure about love on the allotments but we have received (and given) some plants and seeds.  That's plant love. ;D
Does an excess of weeds count as "unusual looking"? ???
Questions, I have so many questions....
This year it's squash.

Not sure if this would be anything to write about - but since being a member it has really struck me how friendly and caring everyone is.  When there was the sad news  about Supersprout, it was so touching to see how many of the A4A members went to the funeral, but what I find even more touching is the amount of good that supersprout did, and the amount of seeds that she passed on to so many people.  There must be so many people with a part of supersprout growing in their allotment - just a thought.

artichoke

And I would like to add that only yesterday I trimmed back the GIGANTIC jerusalem artichokes she sent me, with a pang of memory. I remembered mentioning to her that I cut them back every year to make a neatish hedge in front of my compost heap, and she very typically replied castigating herself for not thinking of this before. So a part of Supersprout is definitely growing on my allotment.
