Hi, First time growing peas, they are about 3ft high now with pods forming do they still have to be covered by netting. I followed another members tip about growing them up chicken wire and it's worked a treat. They were netted as soon as they were planted out for protection from birds.

Just wondering if I can take the netting off now as it's getting in the way and making picking difficult as the peas have started to grow through the net.  Many thanks.

Hi  :D
We didn't net ours at all
so far so good things seem to be leaving them alone. Got lots of flowers and pods on them.

How bad is your pigeon problem? It's Catch 22 with us: if we didn't net, we wouldn't even have any plants, let alone peas; but the netting makes picking difficult & crushes the plants! We keep the nets on and put up with a reduced crop rather than none at all.

I agree with Trevor-D on our Allotment the pigeons will make skeletons of our pea plants overnight, for such stupid birds they can be quite ingenious where food is concerned :o, so we keep ours netted.
