......or has the world gone mad? We have a problem with reception on our fairly new TV and this is part of the mad conversation I had with the local agent.

Him"it's not your tele, it's your aerial. Does it face Dover or Bluebell Hill?"

Me. " As I am in Essex (and so is he) I vaguely know which direction Dover is but I'm not sure about Bluebell Hill, but I do know it's the other side of the Estuary." (sarcasm creeping in now)

Him "well what you need to do is move your aerial to face Bluebell Hill"

Me " so you want me to shin up the chimneystack and point it at Bluebelle
Hill when I find out where that is then?"

Him "No, you needn't do that, I can send Steve, who can do it for you"

Me "does he know in which direction Bluebell Hill is ?"

Him"probably"

Me"Will he charge a vast amount of money to do this?"

Him" Yes of course he will, that's what he does, but he's a very nice man."

End of conversation. The Bearded Wonder will just have to watch everything through Sky I think. ::)

Now don't go doing it yourself it is very dangerous. As Rod Hull found out , His sons last words to him were 'Just a bit to the left dad'.

Emagggie

No intention of doing that Ace, it was just the point that he really hadn't a clue about customer service, and assumed I'd know where a hill at least 75 miles away in another county was. :o
Poor old Rod Hull, I remember his demise. Wonder what happened to Emu.

Customer service. Don't get me started! You know that moment when they say "...there's no call for it.."

We had a similar problem when Sky + was installed.  Engineer came back and said we needed a 6' extension to the aerial because of the trees.  Rang the aeriel people £80 for the extension £80 for fitting. We rang Sky again and argued we had no trouble with the old Sky through the same aerial. The engineer came back and 'tweeked' the box on the dish..............problem solved!
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

Bluebell Hill is Walderslade above Chatham... I know and I live in Derby... (I have friends who live there!)
::)

The only reason I know it exists is because I was born there ;D but how do you know if you are facing it directly? I suppose I could get a relly to go and see if he can see me from there and cooee across the water 8) ;D

What a load of cods wallop. If you had no problems with older TVs then why would they start with a newer one with better technology. Me thinks one sales assistant is talking out his backside.
All you do and all you see is all your life will ever be

Emagggie

I'm inclined to agree, KT. I contacted him as directed by John Lewis who thought the problem warranted a call-out, but when I rang them to report back, the manager said he had similar probs and his solution was to watch through Sky. In other words, go away woman.  ::)

I love shopping, especially for electrical goods.  The standard conversation goes someting like

Assistant 'And Sir will want the extended warranty, of course?'
Me 'Why?  Is it that unreliable?'
Ass 'Of course not, Sir.  It's very reliable'
Me 'So why do I need the extended warranty then?'
Ass .................

You get extra points if you make them cry.

We are in the process of attempting to change from cable to sky. Letter came from sky saying that if you live in a conservation area (we do) and if you have a flat roof (we do) then you need planning permission. So I phoned Edinburgh Council to find out. The person that answered said the "Duty Planner" would phone back. They did about 3 hours later but I was out. My son spoke to them and they said there was a planning permission form online and yes we needed planning permission.

I spent some time online when I came back. Very difficult to know which form to use. Then I did a bit of surfing around Edinburgh's policy regarding satellite installations. From that I think we don't need planning permission at all.

;D ;D ;D at Silverbirch.....and yesterday I wanted to order 2 multifunctional printers from Pixmania, but I wanted to check out the warranty (they advertise their own as extra) so I rang them. Girl very helpfully said there was no other warranty, I would have to purchase theirs which then brought the price up with a wallop. I tried arguing the point, and asking for the manager but she was insistent so I said I wouldn't be ordering.
I just hope that the call was a recorded one ::) Found out she was talking codswallop anyhow, they are so much cheaper than anywhere else so I did order (and there is 2 years warranty  ;D)
I haven't done very well this week, have I?
Just seen your post as I was about to hit the button Grawc. How frustrating. Why do these people make life difficult?

Whenever I get a jumped up " sales assistant "  (now there's a contradiction!)
I usually ask them if they ever watch BBC1 ? You should watch it over this next few weeks because you're going to be on it! The program is called Watchdog !
I usually get asked at this point "perhaps you would like to speak to the manager ?"
If you don't get any satisfaction there ask him for the phone number AND address of head office.

That usually helps him ,help you  ;)      ;D ;D ;D
UNDER PRESSURE (constantly)
