Since it's a thing like a housefly, how come it 's not supposed to fly above a certain height?

And why fine mesh if they are so large?

I think they do fly higher but it is when the eggs are being 'deposited' that they tend to linger at low levels and this is why the mesh should be fine to stop the eggs landing on your crop  :)

I don,t think anyone has told the carrot fly that it not supposed to fly higher than 18". If you have solid fencing, how does it get into your garden.

It  is supposedly only the females that fly low, maybe they show an ankle or 3 and hitch a ride with the males to get over  barriers,,,
Cos they certainly do get over em ...
