These still have a few flowers - any chance of fruit ?
I live in London.

if it stays frost free, quite probably. We have fruit coming by the punnet full.
Kindest regards

I'm still picking mine, but they seem to be getting less sweet- is this the usual pattern?

Yes, ours have tended to get less sweet as the season comes to an end. But I sometimes wonder why they are called autumn raspberries - ours started fruiting in June (this is in London) and are still at it now (only just, though).

Is it normal for the fruits to get smaller and smaller as the season wears on too? The ones I inherited on my plot are still fruiting but they are tiny, I'm not sure whether they might need replacing?
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Yes, 'fraid so. But it's been pretty dry here too which won't help. I don't think this is a bad sign on it's own.

Kea

Mine have got smaller, they did the same last year. It's been very dry so it's not surprising the berries have got smaller. However they've been fruiting now since June and still going. What really worries me was that I noticed my summer raspberries planted this year are now loaded with green fruit....probably means they won't fruit next summer!

Wow we do not have that much our 10 (only 9 are alive) canes do not have nearly so many but they were only planted in January, should I get more next year ?

pigeonseed

I think they fruit on year old branches. So next year you should have more.

Georgie

I think Autumn raspberries fruit on new canes which is why I cut mine down in the autumn.  But this is only my second year of growing them so I could be wrong.

They fruit on new canes but you get more canes the second year and I assume even more the year after. I got a much bigger harvest this year, in my second year.

Every year you get more and more canes till the raspberries are coming out of your ears. Especially if you have Joan J, which is prolific.  We have a freezer full of them waiting to be made into jam.  They are HUGE this year, must be all the wet weather we had earlier in the "summer"

Do you think Joan J is better than Autumn bliss ?

I haven't tried Autumn Bliss - I ordered the  raspberry canes four years ago, as an offer of three types (12 of each) from Marshalls.  They didn't have AB, and the autumn variety they offered was JJ, so we took that.  We're more than happy with the raspberries, the problem is the quantity!

Bliss are a couple of weeks earlier. Not much in it for taste. Bliss are a bit smaller. Joan J appear to be more consistant through the season. I reckon Joan J are a bit taller so better on your back. Also, as mentioned, Joan J produce a massive amount of suckers so you can buy 10 & have hundreds within a few years.

Joan J are a lot more expensive 5 for £11 while others are £5 for £10.
Do you think they are worth the extra money ???  Or does anyone have some spare I can have for postage ??

I would happily send you some but the ones I currently have are in their first year. Might be able to ponce a few for you from one of my neighbours though. Let me check.

I would probably go for the Bliss, if they're half the price. A fun one that I want to get is one of the golden ones.

I read about a new one for sale somewhere...I stumbled onto the site now I can't remember where or what either the site or the autumn raspberries were called but they sounded good. I'm still looking for it again. The variety started with 'B'....I think ???

We usually cut them down in December/January and they are dormant at that time. I can thin them out and let you have some roots. Can you pm me nearer the time?
