Grapes in a greenhouse

I have a small (about 7ft x 6ft) greenhouse attached to the brick wall of my allotment shed. I am thinking of growing dessert grapes on this back wall. I already grow grapes outside for wine making.

Questions

1. Will they take up a lot of room? The ones outside certainly do.

2. Will they use up loads of soil nutrients?

3. Would it be possible to grow the grapes on wires above tomatoes or lettuce in the same bed?

4. Would the grapes affect the effect of the brick wall as a heat store?

If you can plant the root ball outside the greenhouse and feed the rod/s in.

This way your grape will not take over the greenhouse border and you could run the main rod along the ridge in this way you will take up minimal space.

It will also allow you to use the border for other things.

A) depends how you prune, they can be pruned to crop on a very small framework

2. Will they use up loads of soil nutrients?

A) they will need feeding - they love blood  :o

3. Would it be possible to grow the grapes on wires above tomatoes or lettuce in the same bed?

A) see answer to question 1- you'll need instructions for pruning

4. Would the grapes affect the effect of the brick wall as a heat store?

A) if kept pruned heavily probably not and after leaf fall not at all I would think

there was an article in the kitchen garden about growing grapes ,the orchard house method,also known as the cane and ring method.. aim to grow your grapes to 1.2m in a pot. once the grape is mature, support with 3 canes, allow side laterals to form once the grape reaches the height and train over the circle of pipe around the canes..grapes are brought in in late winter and put out, after fruiting, in autumn..we're going to try 2 new grapes with his method .
