Jiffy 7's

This year I am starting off my seeds in jiffy 7's.  I have never tried them before and in fact had never heard of them until Jeannine kindly sent me some instructions for growing peppers.   It will be interesting to see how I get on with them.

I have a query.  I started my tumbler tomato seeds off on wet kitchen roll in a propagator, then when they split, I put each seed into a jiffy 7.  The problem now is that the seedlings are about 1½ inches tall and very thin.  Normally I would have re-potted them and buried most of the stalks.  Should I leave them in the jiffy7's until roots grow out the sides and how tall are they likely to be then?

I am sure that the problem is lack of light.  They are indoors on a windowsill but we just don't seem to have had the sunlight and I have never planted them this early before.

Hi Pauline,
If I use my window sills for seedlings I wrap the seed tray on three sides with tin foil to help reflect the light all around the seed tray. I judge the height of the foil as the same as the depth of the tray. I find that this prevents the seedling getting too leggy.
Hope this helps

Light, Pauline, yes.

Growers like Simpsons send them out in Jiffies ready for potting up.
