ruud, I havea little box of stuff that I took from fruit about 2 years ago, these seeds are part of thet box. I also saved guava, tamarillo, dragon fruit, cherimoya, grenadilla, cactus fig and various passion fruit at the same time.

I did plan to have a go but then never did.

I got some other fruit seeds from the US this year Oregon Grape and   Riverbank grape these are the wild ones.

The new ones we do plan to sow along with tree seeds that Joh has taken as interest in.

I will do a germination test an dsee how it goes.

I also took some  seeds out of a fruit I have never seen befor just 2 weeks ago, i will try and find the name, It tasted like caramel.

XX Jeannine

Just had a thought, why don't I just go and get some fresh ones, can't you get the fruit in Holland?

Hi jeannine, pawpaw is a confussing name,i am not looking for papaya.I am looking for a small tree native in the states also known as poor mans banana.Sharon is also known as persimmon that is the same fruit.Sharon fruit aka persimmon aka kakifruit is native in china, both are frost resistant.

I have some dwarf ones (only a Patio Allotment all my stuff in pots) but am still struggling to get them to germinate.

They have a thick rugged outer coating and tried sowing some plain some with coating removed some I left in the fridge for a few month but they are still being difficult.

Last year seed can let you have 10.

ruud

"Pusa Nanha" Dwarf Papaya (paw paw) from USA......I think.

Paw paws or Papaya are normaly large trees.  These grow to about 1.5 mtr and suppoosed to fruit in first year.   More deatil here:-

WE had tons of pawpaw trees in my garden in south africa growing up, they are massive things and take years to fruit, but when they start they go on for ever, and there is nothing nicer than a fresh pawpaw in summer

Jeannine

Caroline, I only saw this for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it does taste of caramel. Began with an s I think. About as big as large plum, brown, dry skin like a russet apple almost, odd flesh, not crisp bit more like a very firm banana. Expensive packed in pairs by the figs and passion fruit

I will look again,I have tried googling but had little to go on.

Asimina Triloba the hardy pawpaw is known as the poor mans banana, its available from Jungleseeds, they also do sharon fruit.

I have two I grew from seed. They're only about 6 inches tall so I hope they will get bigger. They are the hardiest type of pawpaw and the one they recommend for this country.

Caroline the caramel flavoured fruit is a Sapota  AKA Chikoo AKA Sapadillo native to India. I found it on Tesco's delivery grocery list
