Nice looking healthy beans you have there Tim

However,I cant see the point in setting them so earleir and then spending money on fleece to protect them.

Certain individuals do it on our patch. They protect them with clingfilm, fleece, hessian, you name it.....but every one elses crops soon catch up!

My youngest came home from pre-school this morning with his own runner bean in a pot. Wasn't going to plant mine for another week or two yet! By the time we got home, the compost and bean were loose in the bag!!! Have replanted it and watered - unfortunately he thinks he should be able to see it growing soon!! Don't know why they didn't start with somthing quicker!!!

calendula

I bet it will have put on visible growth by tomorrow - they fairly sprint along (easily seen if germinated on a wet kitchen towel which is the best way for kids)  ;D

will be sowing mine in the next week or so, always depends on one's location

Panic

If you lot are all planting this weekend or already then I am late!!

I always do this every year - start march'ish and then lose April altogether and now need to panic to get everything in!  You would have thought that I may have cracked it by now - but no!!

I will now put my beans in tonight!!!

Sowed mine in root trainers 10 days ago. Most are now through with the strongest 2" tall already. Will go in the cold frame next week, then out on plot on the 2nd or 3rd weekend in May.

Like the idea of planting runners in trainers (nike or adidas?)
Do they grow faster?
Once upon a time we were the newbies from Harley allotments. Now we're old codgers!

My first batch of Enorma were sown beginning of April in cold greenhouse, 17 out of 18 germinated, now approx 4".  Been fleecing at nights. 2nd batch going to be sown this week but none will be put out until middle of May.

First week in May,plenty soon enough in WMids, still sowing toms.

redimp

I have only ever had problems sowing early.  Poor germination or good germination and leggy and soft.  I ain't sowing for another couple of weeks.

Sown mine today, and they will remain in the outhouse until they are big n strong enough to be hardened off.     :P

Agree entirely with all the calls for restraint. I thought I was the model of that?? But there are times when you want to ensure that you have plants, in time to re-sow. For instance, White Lady, this year. seem to be taking a sabatical! And I wanted to try to stagger the crop this year.

Fleece, Fork? No new cost. Have had it for many years. Bought in bulk many years ago at a very good price. And then it will go onto the Brassica.
