Chicken Run Fencing

I'm wanting to take over the half plot above mine and convert 30% of this into a chicken run (approx 10 meters x 20 meters) I wont be having a massive flock, but I've figured that more space so areas can be divided etc is better then too little, and once the birds have eaten all the weeds I'll be able to plant then!

My stumblin block though is chicken wire fencing - at £10.00 for 10 meters... roughly works out at £100 plus for a 6foot high fence all the way round!  :o

Ive looked into the builders security fencing but this aint cheap either!

Anyone tried a `pallet` fence????

Thanks

Hi I bought 50 metres of 90cm high fencing for £30 odd from Mole Valley Farmers.  I believe there is a site on internet called something like "just wire" looked reasonable.

The other alternative - which looked reasonable to me was electric fencing which obviously you can move as and when you like! I saw a "kit" for about £69!

Not thought about pallet fencing - but wouldn't you have a problem with foxes getting over?

Other possible idea would be if you were to attach the run to the house and only had a smallish wood surround wired enclosure which moves with the house and you could move it on a daily/weekly basis depending on how big you want it and how many chooks you have in it!

Have a look at Mesh Direct on the net.

A friend of mine has a pallet fence and it looks really good. If you can get some then go for it.

Why not try Freecycle............someone might just be wanting to get rid of some.
Love my hens and all that's henny!
