A few of my onions have flowers on them, is this normal or have they gone to seed.

gone to seed, chop their heads off and eat the onions first, we're having to do this with the red ones  :)

Most of my onions have been stolen (the biggest).

I hope they choke on the flower heads.

Another plotholder suggested injecting the remaining ones with strychnine!

Sorry to hear about the theft George, who would want to steal onions for goodness sake.? Were they meant to be for a show?

Strychnine,2oz a lead between the eyes.
Every year i tell myself i will not grow reds as they go to seed >:(,but every year i see them in the catalogues and think last chance  :-[ . This year it was one called Red Karmen, who's claim to fame is slow to bolt. >:( Well not this  year i can tell ya. so that's the last time i grow reds. :'(.....honest. ::)

My red Karmen are producing buds too. Didn't have this problem with Red Baron before so might go back to them.

I have got red baron onions, those are the ones producing the buds, so I have pulled them out and sliced them up for  a salad with dinner tonight

last year my red barons were the best on site , i sored enough strung in the shed to last me to March this year. As i would like to use one a  day to cook, this year i have planted 366!! all bolted so far and some have divided into twos and threes like shallots! i guess they went in too early.

My red baron onions have buds on them today too!!  Will dig them out tomorrow.

manicscousers

don't dig them out too soon, you can still use them, take the flower heads off and take them when you need an onion, just make sure they don't rot from the neck  :)
I hate throwing anything edible out  ;D
