Really beautiful display Richard.

Question for you though is there a trick in getting long stems as we have a good display but short stems?

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

jordsbabe

They are gorgeous! If I plant seeds now, have i missed them for this year or can i start them now for next year?

RSJK

Bocking Bill,
i do not know the secret of long stems have only grown sweetpeas for the first time this year. I did give the ground a good dressing of dried blood before i planted them out and have kept the tendrils cut off the plants , i believe this helps get a longer stem.

Jordsbabe you are to late now to plant seeds now , I planted mine in late October in the greenhouse and then when they were about 4" high i put them outside in there pots to stand the winter. I found that it did pay to put a net over them as the birds love to peck at them.

Hope this as been of some use to you, but as i said I am only a beginner with them myself.

It was my first year for sweetpeas also and they'll definitely be grown next year. they did well even in part shade and also crowded into the veg garden. What a wonderful treat having these indoors, and they arrive nice and early before all the summer bloomers.

The stems do take time to lengthen again after the plants have been layered
