caravan awning problem

We have a touring caravan on a permanent pitch with an awning.  The pitch is on a very very slight slant, the awning slightly sloping down towards the caravan.  it is all very taught.  Each time my OH goes to it after wet weather - it is holding loads of water.  It wont tighten any more.  If we lower the front legs we lose the taught and get large dips in the roof.  It is all brand new this season, but the annex pole has snapped already due to water weight.  We cannot turn the caravan 180 degrees due to bushes and trees.

Any ideas.

Its the annex, not the awning.  unfortunately you cannot put a pole in the centre.  Not feasible.

KT,
I also  go caravanning  and a way round your problem for me would be this. get hold of a couple of awning poles which are easy to come by, one in each side of the awning(in fact you could use more than one if you wish) and put the awning poles inside a football or make up something to sit on top of the pole that won't go through the awning, this then would shove up into your awning roof, you could secure these poles to the other awning poles by guy ropes :)

If your caravan is lower than the awning, put the caravan on blocks to raise it, this should sort the problem making the caravan higher  :)

My wife has put in 2 x washing line extension poles with plastic balls on the end (from the kids play pool) to raise the roof for now.  I am only going to be home for one week between now and Xmas.  I will definitely try this idea next season.  Thanks.

KTLawson, we have been caravanning for 15 years now but don't keep ours on a permanent pitch.  I would have thought the answer to your problem is to take the awning down when you leave the site and put it up when you come back to it.  It doesn't take very long once you have the hang of it.

Having the awning out in all weathers leaves it exposed to high wind damage.  It will also begin to smell damp inside.  It would make it easier for the site owner to cut the grass.  On French sites I have often seen caravans on permanent pitches with awnings and they look awful with the grass growing up around them and the awnings being in poor condition due to the rain.

We used to do this over the past five years, before I was working away as much as I am at the moment.  My wife cannot manage it all on her own, neither would she tow the caravan.  With me working away a lot,  we purchased an awning specifically designed to be left erected all season.  It costs more than a standard awning but my wife and kids now go caravaning at least fortnightly when I am away.  (Pleased they are having the breaks. 8))
