I have finally managed a video of my vegetables in the summer

Both my previous ones were done in the winter and the difference is amazing.

Fantastic - you really have made the most of the space.

What a superb allotment, you really have made the best of every inch!! I agree with Duke Ellington, I'd love to know how you made the greenhouses.

I just love your plot. Everything looks wonderful. We are too doing about half our allotment in raised beds made with decking timber inspired by your plot! If ours ends up half as good as yours, I would be very happy!

allaboutliverpool

For those after cheap decking timber 2.4m (8 feet) long. B&Q are selling it for £2.40 a piece, that is £7.20 per bed.

The greenhouse is built in the same way as the butternut squash houses shown on my butternut squash page but with thicker timber due to the height giving more wind resistance.

Because of the weight involved and because I rotate the greenhouse to other beds, I built two, 1.2m square that sit next to each other.

When you are at B&Q, ask them for old straps that hold wood or pavers together.
I have found that if they are stapled over the edge of the polythene it makes it much stronger.

Holy smokes your plot is beautiful.

I am going to show your videos to my husband in hopes that he might be inspired to build similar squash houses for our plot next year.

Wonderful work!!

Where do you buy the polythene from for the greenhouse?

Dear Gloucester Womble

I love your blog and have added it to my favourites.

The polythene is extra heavy duty 2.5m double (5m single thickness), and came in a 100m roll that cost £106 delivered. It seemed a lot at the time but it is now in its third year, and will probably last about 10 years - £10 a year which seems much more reasonable.

I just searched the internet at the time but cannot remember the site name.

An inspriration!
How long do you spend at the allotment each week - or do you live in the shed? :)

Duke Ellington

Are B&Q selling decking boards that cheap!!or was that some time ago?

Well I have just added both your blog and George's allotment websites to my favorites, what inspirations and wealth of knowledge to keep dipping into, I have already gleemed info from George :) I'm fairly new to vege gardening in the UK as all my experience is West Indian based, so thanks in advance.

allaboutliverpool

I bought 10 boards last Wednesday

B&Q had a huge stack.

Also on Wednesdays I get 10% off with my old gits card

Thanks George, that's really nice of you to say!! Well I spent last night looking at your website and your wife's site about Nice, both also inspirational. Thanks for the info about the plastic, sounds like good value.

Thats good,We need some more wood for raised beds.Going to take my mum so we can get the discount. She don't know it yet. :)

allaboutliverpool

Compothefirst asked how long I spend on my plot.
Here are the figures-

April 22 hours (it rained on 27 out of 30 days!)
May 40 hours (12 days rain)
June 46 hours (14 days rain)
July 46 hours (16 days rain and 10 days in Nice during which time it rained on 4 of those days ie 22 days affected)

June and July have seen an increasing proportion spent on picking crops.

As can be seen it is a huge commitment and explains why so many drop out especially if these frequent days with rain fall on the planned allotment sessions.
