Hi,

Im looking to replace a silver birch with a fruit tree in the front garden.  Im looking for something that doesnt surface root too much. I also park under the tree so Im looking for something that wont drop too much sap etc.

I was thinking of a Fig tree but Im open to any suggestions, does anyone have any good advice?

Thanks

Whatever you plant, I suggest you try planting in lined pit or a root bag to keep the main roots away from the surface. As a shortcut version, I planted my fig through a hole made in the bottom of an upturned bucket.

Fig tree is a good option for your Fruit Tree for Front Garden. I also planted my fig through a hole made in the bottom of an upturned bucket.

Thank you for the idea of the overturned bucket. I was just about ready to transplant a couple figs from cuttings to see where they'll survive best. Another good idea from A4A :icon_cheers:
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exercise machine.

Our choice in similar circumstances was a crabapple, planted in a bottomless container to contain the surface rooting.  It's also stopped the tree becoming too big.  Beautiful blossom in the spring, and the crabapples get processed and frozen to add to pies and to make lovely sour apple sauce.
